2023 Toyota GR 86 Special Edition Review

The GR86 Special Edition arrives amid an influx of new products along with special editions by the Japanese automaker, which also included a special Morizo Edition of Toyota’s GR Corolla and an extremely tough Woodland Edition of the RAV4 Hybrid. The darker hue of the stainless steel GR cat-back exhaust will be the first indication that a GR86 Special Edition is on the horizon. Then comes the attractive Solar Shift orange paint that is only available for this particular model. As with the GR86 Premium Grade that it’s based off the Special Edition runs upon Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires that are wrapped around aluminum wheels of 18 inches. These wheels feature made-to-order construction and an ebony black surface.

The black graphic stripe on C-pillars, as well as the black duckbill spoiler, complement the black aerodynamic lower parts along with the black-chrome exhaust tip while being in contrast with an orange-colored paint. The Special version has an interior with Ultrasuede and leather. It remains largely the same as GR Premium’s cabin but by adding GR special-edition badges.

Engine

This 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder remains unaltered, producing 228 horsepower, and 184 pounds-feet of torque. It is available with either automatic or manual versions of its six-speed gearbox that drives its rear axles. Every 2023 GR86 is offered with one year of free National Auto Sport Association membership that comes with a free high-performance driving experience and discounts on NASA sanctioned events that go beyond.

Specs

To commemorate all the goodness The special edition 2023 Toyota GR86 designed by Gazoo Racing the racing division of Toyota -is available in a stunning brand new exclusive orange color (dubbed Solar Shift) complementing the other seven choices available. It also features the GR cats-back exhaust, as well as chrome black tips. The company claims it gives an ‘edgier sound’ and although we didn’t test this 2-door Toyota Coupe to the racetrack as we had done with its 2023 GR Corolla MORIO edition, we’ll trust their claims.

The rear style features an obnoxious duckbill spoiler and subtle black graphics on the C-pillar. All of it is mounted on 18-inch forged matte black alloy wheels that stand out against the distinctive orange color scheme. In contrast to the base GR86 riding on 17-inch wheels with 10-spoke spokes coated with Michelin Primacy HP rubber, this special edition GR86 model based upon the premium grade GR86 is mounted on the standard 18-inch, 10-spoke black aluminum alloy wheels that come with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. In general, we don’t often get second-generation cars in the same way however, it seems Gazoo Racing took advantage of the brand new 2.4L to the maximum. Its 2023 GR86 Special Edition built on the Premium grade serves as an opportunity to remind us. In case we forget.
