2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 Is Its More Affordable Entry-Level EV

2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 – By the year 2030, BMW plans to have sold 50 percent of its new automobiles as battery electric vehicles (BEVs). It has already sold over 57,000 electric vehicles throughout the globe only this year so far, in part because of its brand-new i4 all-electric car, and the good news is that the celebration isn’t going to end there. BMW has recently stated that it would be releasing a new base-level i4 sedan in 2023 called the 2023 BMW i4 eDrive35. This new i4 sedan will have a single-drive motor that is less powerful and an acceptable projected driving range.

2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 Release Date & Price

The new eDrive35 is the entry-level model in the i4 portfolio, which also has the i4 eDrive40 and the high-performance i4 M50. It has a starting price of $52,395 (including the delivery charge), which is almost $4,000 less than the now-middle-tier eDrive40. Even though it only has one engine, it has most of the same operating gear as the other BMW i4 and iX models. However, the power from its motor is lower.

Powertrain

Although these are early power statistics that might vary by the time the vehicle is produced, the battery pack has 66 kWh of useable high-voltage energy storage that powers a single, rear-mounted synchronous motor that is capable of producing up to 281 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. According to the manufacturer, the eDrive35 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds. For the purpose of comparison, the motor in the eDrive40 model produces 335 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and it is equipped with an 81-kWh battery.

Charging System

Using the same EPA test procedure standards, BMW estimates that the eDrive35 trim will be capable of achieving up to 260 miles of estimated range before it will need to be topped off (the actual EPA range may be different once it is announced). Rolling on wheels that are 18 inches in diameter, this trim will be available. The battery can be charged at a rate of up to 180 kW using a DC fast charger, improving the battery’s state-of-charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in a stated timeframe of only half an hour based on early testing. This rise in state-of-charge can be achieved in just one-half hour.

The new model will be just as capable of over-the-air software upgrades as its i4 brothers, giving enhanced functionality to the revised BMW Operating System 8 that is running on the huge curved display located inside the interior of the vehicle. The eDrive35 may also be equipped with all of the same optional add-ons as the eDrive40, such as larger wheels (which may have an adverse effect on fuel economy), the Shadowline dark accent trim package, or the luxury package, which includes amenities such as heated seats and steering. It is predicted that deliveries of the brand-new eDrive35 will get underway in the first quarter of 2023.
